Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has opened up on his relationship with former President Muhammadu Buhari, insisting that their relationship did not collapse over a personal disagreement.
Lawal made the clarification during an interview with Arise News while reflecting on his time in Buhari’s administration and the circumstances surrounding his removal as SGF.
Lawal: Buhari Did Not Stand By Me
The former SGF said he and Buhari never had a personal dispute that led to the deterioration of their relationship.
According to Lawal, the former president allowed him to leave government but failed to support him during the difficult period that followed his removal from office.
He described the experience as being “thrown under the bus,” saying he was left to face the consequences of his removal alone.
“Buhari and I did not have a personal disagreement. Buhari allowed me to leave government, but he did not stand by me during the difficult period. He threw me under the bus.
“My removal was not caused by a breakdown in our personal relationship. I was left to deal with the consequences after I was removed from office that year.
“My relationship with Buhari should not be seen as having ended because of a personal dispute.”

He maintained that his removal should not be interpreted as evidence of a personal fallout between himself and the former president.
