Toluwanisings’ Death: Oyo Police Secure Peace Agreement Between Family and Associates

The Oyo State Police Command has intervened in the dispute surrounding the death and burial arrangements of gospel singer Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, securing a peace agreement between his family and associates.

The police said the parties signed an undertaking to maintain peace and refrain from public exchanges that could escalate tensions surrounding the singer’s death.

Toluwanisings died in Ibadan on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping. His death generated controversy following allegations that some hospitals declined to attend to him while efforts were being made to obtain emergency medical care.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the intervention followed reports of disagreements involving the deceased’s relatives, friends and associates.

According to the police, the command received information on October 28 about the dispute and allegations of conspiracy, defamation of character and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, subsequently directed that the parties be invited to the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, for an intervention aimed at preventing the disagreement from escalating.

Parties Sign Peace Undertaking

The police said the engagement was concluded on November 3, with all parties signing a peace undertaking before the Commissioner of Police.

Those involved included the deceased’s wife, Mrs Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr Muniru Olayemi; and friends and associates, including Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu. The singer’s personal assistant and other representatives also participated.

Under the agreement, the parties committed to maintaining peace and good behaviour and avoiding actions capable of causing a breach of peace.

They also agreed to discontinue public exchanges, interviews and discussions that could inflame tensions over the singer’s death and burial arrangements.

Social Media Publications, Interviews Restricted

The undertaking further requires the parties to stop circulating information, narratives, allegations and publications concerning the matter through social media, print media, radio, blogs and other communication channels.

The restriction also covers the use of proxies, agents and associates to disseminate such material.

The parties equally agreed not to grant interviews or facilitate media engagements aimed at spreading narratives capable of worsening the disagreement.

They also undertook to direct their representatives and associates to stop making, sponsoring, amplifying or circulating publications that could reignite tensions.

Police Commissioner Issues Warning

The Commissioner of Police warned all parties to respect the agreement and ensure that their proxies, agents and associates also comply with its terms.

The intervention followed disagreements that emerged after the gospel singer’s death, which attracted public attention amid allegations surrounding attempts to secure emergency medical treatment for him.
