A ponmo seller reportedly collapsed in court during her arraignment in Akure, Ondo State, following her arrest over the alleged discovery of human faeces at her processing centre.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, days after the Chairman of Akure South Local Government Area, Hon. Gbenga Fasua, ordered the closure of a popular ponmo supply store on Igboliki Street.
The closure followed an environmental sanitation inspection during which two buckets allegedly containing human faeces were discovered on the premises.
How the Alleged Discovery Was Made
The discovery was reportedly made during the October monthly environmental sanitation exercise on a Saturday.
Fasua led a monitoring team through Oke Aro, Iro and Igboliki streets to assess compliance with environmental sanitation regulations.
Information from the inspection indicated that the ponmo business had operated in the area for more than 21 years.
The operator, who was present during the inspection, reportedly identified herself as the President of the Ponmo Sellers’ Association in Ondo State.
Local Government Orders Closure and Prosecution
Following the discovery, Fasua ordered the immediate closure of the premises and directed that all ponmo products at the shop be disposed of.
He also instructed that the operator be prosecuted in line with applicable local and state environmental laws.
The businesswoman was subsequently arrested and brought before a court in Akure on Tuesday for arraignment.
She reportedly collapsed while the court proceedings were ongoing.
Further details about her condition and the circumstances surrounding the collapse were not provided in the report.
