US Warns Citizens in Saudi Arabia Over Houthi Threats to Airports, Airspace

The United States has warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia to exercise heightened vigilance amid ongoing security concerns and public threats by the Houthis against airports and airspace across the country.

The US Mission in Saudi Arabia issued the security alert on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, citing the potential for the situation to affect air travel and movement within the kingdom.

“Due to the ongoing security situation in Saudi Arabia and Houthi public threats against airports and airspace across Saudi Arabia, the US Mission reminds all US citizens to exercise heightened vigilance,” the mission said in an alert published on X and its website.

The mission recalled that the Houthis had previously engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports. It warned that the military conflict could escalate, potentially creating further security and travel risks.

US Warns of Flight Disruptions

American citizens in Saudi Arabia were advised to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.

The US Mission urged travellers to confirm their flight information before travelling to airports, recommending that they check departure status directly with their airline and the relevant airport.

The warning comes as concerns grow over the potential impact of Houthi threats on Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector and regional security.

Americans Warned Against Yemen Border Travel

The US Mission also advised American citizens against travelling near the Yemen border because of security risks.

Travellers were encouraged to follow safety instructions and emergency guidance issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense authorities.

Additional restrictions were outlined for US government employees working in Saudi Arabia. The employees are prohibited from travelling within 20 miles of the Yemen border and require special authorisation to visit Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces, as well as Qatif, Yanbu and Taif.

The restrictions underscore the level of concern surrounding areas considered particularly vulnerable to security threats.

No Order for Americans to Leave Saudi Arabia

Despite the heightened warning, the US Mission did not instruct American citizens generally to leave Saudi Arabia.

Instead, the advisory urged Americans to remain vigilant, avoid designated high-risk areas and prepare for possible disruptions to flights and other travel.

The latest alert follows public threats by the Houthis against airports and airspace in Saudi Arabia and comes amid broader regional security concerns.

US citizens in the kingdom are therefore being urged to remain informed, monitor official safety guidance and confirm flight information before travelling to airports.
