President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria on Sunday after extending his working vacation in Europe by a few days.
Tinubu had left Nigeria for London on August 30 as part of his annual leave before travelling to Paris, France, after spending about a week in the United Kingdom.
The Presidency announced on September 21 that the president had extended his stay abroad and would return to Nigeria at the weekend.
His prolonged absence has generated political debate and constitutional questions, particularly over the implications of remaining outside the country for more than 21 days without a public transfer of presidential powers to Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The Presidency, however, maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.
Amid the president’s expected return, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to establish and lead campaign teams for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the FCT and Rivers State.
Wike disclosed this on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing Phase Two construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project in Chikuku, Abuja.
The minister said he would personally lead the campaign structure in Abuja and his home state, Rivers, as political parties and supporters prepare for the 2027 general elections.
